Towards the end of nineties, a group of highly educated youth of Sundargarh town hailing from diverse socio-economic background, set to utilize their leisure hours in social welfare activities. At the outset they engrossed themselves in activities like avenue plantation, blood donation, organizing cultural activities, debate, quiz and painting competitions etc. for students of nearby schools and colleges. Through these activities, they got the live exposure to the plights of the rural people, their exploitations, their lives and livelihood; their socio-economic status in free India. It moved them. A few of them found the goal of their life in service to such suffering of mankind and other friends vowed to support them.

And thus the foundation of the organization Centre for Integrated Rural & Tribal Development (CIRTD) was laid. It got its legal entity by getting the organization registered under section xxi of the Society Registration Act 1860 in 2001. Later on it was:-
